The Indian government introduced the Government EMarketplace ‘GeM’ in August 2016 as an end-to-end online marketplace to facilitate online procurement of common use goods and services required by central and state government ministries, departments, public sector undertakings, autonomous institutions, organizations.

Government e-Marketplace Registration GeM is a short form of one-stop Government e-Market Place hosted by DGS&D where common user goods and services can be procured. GeM is dynamic, self-sustaining and user-friendly portal for making procurement by Government officers.

Public procurement forms a very important part of Government activity and reform in Public Procurement is one of the top priorities of the present Government. Government e-Marketplace (GeM – gem.gov.in) is a very bold step of the Government with the aim to transform the way in which procurement of goods and services is done by the Government Ministries and Departments, Public Sector Undertakings and other apex autonomous bodies of the Central Government.

GeM Initial Checklist

  1. Company name, address with PIN.
  2. Email ID (To get OTPs).
  3. Mobile number (To get OTPs).
  4. Company’s PAN.
  5. Company’s GST registration certificate.
  6. Company’s cancelled cheque copy.
  7. Company’s Udyam Registration Certificate.
  8. Company’s Startup India Registration certificate.
  9. Company’s detailed ITR (Latest).
  10. Authorised person’s PAN, Aadhaar and name as per ITD records.

Checklist to upload product / service Catalog

  1. Product / Service list / details.
  2. Product catalog.
  3. Fulfilled purchased order/s from public sector enterprises (Not more than 3 years old).
  4. OEM authorisation letter with unique number, date, period as applicable.
  5. Product photos (Front, back and close up).

Key Take away:

  1. If you think your prospective client / customer is from public sector enterprise, it makes business sense to get it registered on GeM.
  2. As soon as your profile is up (100% up), please do process the payment of caution money as per GeM policy.
  3. Please do participate in custom bid/s.
  4. Upload product / service catalog/s.
  5. If you are OEM, please do apply for OEM panel.
  6. Create your own brand (You have to have Trademark registration certificate).
  7. Go for vendor assessment or vendor assessment exemption (You have to have NSIC registration certificate*).
